Where Difficult Circumstances Become An Opportunity.

Our journey began as my nephew at the age of 16 made a decision that would take him on a path no one expect. After two teenagers made a decision to commit a crime, our family was introduced to a system that so many households have to face without the proper knowledge or resources.

As his mother seek representation and obtained one.   There was confidence that he would be properly represented and his mother be well informed of the process, but that was not the reality. As my nephew stood before the judge for a  robbery charge for taking someone's purse.  The judge proceeded to sentence this youth to 12 YEARS in an adult prison.

As a mother stood helpless and unaware of what was going on;  the thought crosses your mind how many other families have experience  these  circumstances.   The question is not if a crime was committed,  but does  the punishment fit the crime.  Circumstances of this case do not support the outcome,  however place a spotlight on what many people have faced in the justice system.   When knowledge and resources are lacking;  you are held captive by others.
